The Start of the Japanese Flag

The Japanese flag is characterized by a white field and a big red circle at the center. The flag is also called Nisshoki which means “sun-mark flag”. Another name that the Japanese have for the flag is Hinomaru which means “sun disc”. The flag officially became the national banner together with the national anthem on August 13, 1999. Before law passed it as the official flag, the sun disc flag has already been present to represent Japan in diplomatic affairs as well as is war.

The Daijo-kan published a couple of proclamations in 1870. This was during the Meiji Era which ordered the creation of a national flag. Whenever a customer walks in my custom flag shop and asks for a quotation, they will always indicate all the colors they wish to include on the flag and the logo. I give them the corresponding prices of each aspect and feature of the flag, particularly the colors used. Many customers are not aware that white should not be included in the quotation. Many flag manufacturers and sources, especially those found on the internet, might charge extra for the color white. Although fixing a price for blue, black, red, yellow and other colors is normal, white should not be included in the costing.

When a custom flag manufacturer tells you to pay for the color white or indicates that there are 3, 4 or 5 colors used in all in your design, check again. White should not be included in the pricing because in screen printing, it is not a color. We do not use the color white or white dye if the flag design requires it because screen printing naturally renders the color white. The flag material is white so we only need to screen print and apply other colors and tones.

So when you ask for a quotation when buying on the internet or in a real flag shop, check the details and make sure that you won’t be asked to pay for the color white. A good custom flag maker should explain to you all the details and process so that you get the best material and design at the best rates.

About Custom Flags and the US Flag

I’ve always taken pride about being an American. If you see our house, we have a very huge flag that we display every Flag Day as well as other special occasions and national holidays. Our cars are also decorated with custom flag stickers featuring the American flag so that we can share the feeling of patriotism with others as we travel. Our front glass door also features a number of stickers that present the U.S. flag in different styles. Our kids placed these on the glass just after September 11, 2001.

Some people might think it odd for me to display the flag everywhere I go but I do not mind. Especially after September 11, it’s vital for Americans to work together and spread the virtue of nationalism by placing US flags on their cars and in front of houses and stores.

Before September 11, flags have also been displayed during World War 2.
