The Best Ways to Light Up a Flag Pole

flagpole

There are not a lot of places where you can easily find colored national flags or state banners waving in the wind that will bring out your patriotic nature. There are several rules and guidelines to follow to display a custom flag. Although it is not prohibited to display a flag on a flag pole 24 hours every day, there are some guidelines to follow when raising a flag after sunset. The main approach involves a solar flag light.

Most government, commercial and public buildings do not keep the flag up at night. For those who do, they will usually set up a powerful lighting fixture that will keep the flag bright at night so that the flag is visible in the dark. A lot of homeowners also follow the same practice by installing ground-mounted lights that shine up to the top of the pole. There are lights that can be set up after sunset too.

Although the approach looks ideal and is a respectful way of displaying a flag, these circumstances may also require electrical wires set up at an outdoor location as well as the setting up of lights at the bottom of the flag pole. The homeowner or business owner should also make the proper arrangements to turn the light fixture on every night. The electric bill of the owner tends to go higher because of the extra consumption.

Many land owners are thinking of new and cheaper ways to illuminate their flags at night. There are new technologies available that are also environmentally friendly. In terms of solar lighting, there are already so many products available and these can easily be set up outdoors and will last throughout the night.

A modern solar light will also come with a solar charging panel, an automated sensor and LED bulbs that will turn on the fixture at dusk and then off again at sunrise. The owner of the flag pole can just set up the light and now worry about when to turn it on or off, depending on the times of the day. You can set up anywhere and many report that the lighting fixture can last as long as two decades when properly maintained.

There are also various styles available to illuminate a flag pole well. Some of the available options include pole-mounted units. Compared to ground lights that are buried beneath dirt and snow or can be damaged by lawn care tools, the pole-mounted types are secured on the pole and will also provide more light to the flag. These are ideal for big commercial and residential poles and will only need minimal effort to set up. A solar flag pole light can be a great solution to light the flag pole and save on energy consumption.

Talk to reliable flag pole makers and light experts to know more about how solar lights work and whether you need professional help to prepare. Some of the units are very easy to install and you can fix these on your own without spending anything.

The Holy Faith Flag of ALAM

faith flag

“Alam” is an Arabic term which describes the faith flag. The word means signpost or standard. Alam also has a huge significance in Islamic warfare because it represents a particularly cause. It is also representative of the different tribes or current-day battalions that make up the army. The Alam is also carried by the commander in the middle of a battle. Raising the Alam on enemy grounds, regardless of the combat situation, means that the army has won.

After the Battle of Kerbala, there was a new interpretation linked to the term Alam, which is a symbol or copy of the holy banner of the grandson of Hazrat Imam Hussain, a Holy Prophet, who was killed together with 75 close relatives in the battle against Yazid. The battle’s aim was to bring back Islam into its original roots. Over the centuries, the Alam faith flag was set up in the houses of the followers of Imam Hussain as well as in apartments referred to as Ashurkhanas or the Imam Baras. It is given great respect and represents Hazrat Imam Hussain when he tried to uphold truth above all. The Alam may be given great respect but it is not worshipped by people.

The Abbas or Abbas Alam bardar or half-brother of Imam Hussain was provided the task of becoming the standard bearer of the flag in the battle of Kerbala. On the tenth of Muharram, the great man was martyred by the army of Yazid. This happened when he tried to get water from the Euphrates river. He guarded the banner until he was conquered by the opposing forces.

The Background of the Italian Flag

Italy flagThere are only a few flags in the world that will garner the respect and pride of people as the green, blue and white colors of the Italian flag.

The symbols behind the Italian flag are very special. The green color represents hope. The white tone represents faith and the red color stands for charity. These are all principles of a good human being. These are the principles that all Italians aim to live up to.

The flag first stood for the Cisalpine Republic at Modena in 1797. The Italian constitution was made by the Austrian “Hapsburgs” and was also highly influenced by the French constitution. In 1805, Napoleon I controlled the kingdom of Northern Italy, and the tricolor flag was used to stand for the territory. When Napoleon was ruler and under the reign of Pope Pius VII, the 15 states were made into three main areas.

About 10 years after, the merging ended at the 1815 conference held in Vienna. The country was eventually divided into nine states. There were external forces that had a huge influence on the country struggling and becoming divided. In 1848, King Carlo Alberto ultimately brought Nationalist forces to finally let go of Italy from these forces. The tricolor flag was eventually made the national flag of the country. King Alberto added his royal arms and his black eagle shield on the national banner. In 1860, the whole country was governed by King Vittorio Emmanuele I, King Alberto’s son.

The Prussians attacked France in 1870 and Napoleon III went away from Italy for good. King Emmanuele II also took over the city of Rome when Napoleon III departed, and it became the main city.

Coming Up with a Funeral Bunting Flag

mourning flagMany national holidays will feature official state flags, the national flags and decorations on a flag bunting. Some of the special days of the year that people celebrate include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Veterans Day and Election Day, among others. The colorful strips and various colors and curves displayed will make a flag bunting look more attractive and inviting. People should also use the right tools to shape and sew the materials together. When preparing a funeral bunting flag, the approach is the same but there are some guidelines that you should follow to make the right setup.

First of all, determine the proper width that the funeral bunting flag should have. The width will determine the base of the setup itself. For example, if you have a width of 30 inches, you should also have a base measuring 30 inches. The width of the panel should be one-half of the base number only, so it should 15 inches. The length of the panel should also be the same.

The strips of fabric can conveniently be split according to the width of the panel. For example, if the panel is about 15 inches wide, there should be five stripes, each measuring 3 inches. These will total 15 inches. You also have to add one inch of allowance for the seam to every strip. You can cut five strips, each measuring 4 inches in width. The color of the strips will create the complete design.

All the strips must be laid out in an attractive way and these will show how you can sew everything. Sew every strip to the adjoining strips that will provide you with at least a half-inch seaming. All the sides must be hemmed and the edge should be folded beneath the one-fourth inch strip. Sew a seam along the fold which will place the edges together.

Position the panel on an ironing board and press all the seams so that these are all flat. You can also turn over the panel to keep the right side up. Look for the right number to divide the panel instrument. These should be in equal sections. The panel may now be 45 inches long with each section measuring 5 inches. To get the best output, try 4 and 7 inches. The panels should also be designed to make sharp folds for the funeral bunting flags. One side of the flag should be folded at 5 inches. Use the iron to make a sharp and stable crease. Fold the fabric to the side of the panel. Continue the process until the fold is completely done and the panel length is fully creased.

The folded fans can be linked and all the layers should be placed into the right positions. These will provide enough room and space for the needle to go through. The threads should also be placed properly to finish the funeral bunting flag. Review the whole design then make the necessary changes in the end. You may add your own customizations later on.

Teaching the Virtue of Patriotism

patriotismUSAMore people are becoming aware of the importance of patriotism especially in a growing nation. One great method is to get children involved in a program or play where they can understand the value more. Many schools and educators are creating programs that will be easy to learn among children and will hopefully encourage them to practice patriotism everywhere. However, the educational system has also changed much through the years. There are some schools that no longer teach the value and some places completely have no idea how to reinforce the principle to their students.

Patriotic programs will require some creativity so that students may understand more about their country. The plays and programs will present them with some ideas on how important freedom can be and how well they can also embrace the virtue. Children can be taught to show respect to the national flag and country. They should also get familiar with other symbols of patriotism like the Statue of Liberty, the Washington Monument, the Liberty Bell and the Lincoln Memorial, among others.

There are plenty of holidays that students should remember to know more about the essence of patriotism. Some of the special days of the year that they should memorize include Veterans Day, Constitution Day, Election Day, Pearl Harbor Day, Memorial Day, Presidents Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Independence Day on July 4. All of these are important and will require a patriotic program that will let people stay informed about the value of freedom and independence. September 11 is one of the newer dates to remember among Americans, which teach them about the value of unity above all.

Aside from dates and programs, people should also learn how to be good patriots by listening to patriotic songs. There are so many tunes that are being played on the radio at present, although only a few or none of these fit any form of being a patriot. People might also consider creating a power point presentation about the American Flag. They can learn about all the flags that have been flown in other states and research on the history of each one. Students can be tasked to study the history and creation of various state flags. They can learn about the colors and symbols on the flag of the United States of America.

In sum, some of the most important parts of a patriotism program include creating at least one program for students every year, discussing the symbols that form America and its government, memorizing important national holidays, playing patriotic music, viewing photos and presenting the flag and colors of the United States of America. Talk to some historians and experts on the subject then learn how to appreciate freedom and patriotism more. You might also consider joining groups and organizations that talk about America’s past and the patriots that shaped it into the most powerful nation in the world. You will appreciate the lessons after some time and also share it with friends and family.

What the Great Seal of the United States of America Means

american-miniature-flags-10When you look at the back of an American one dollar bill, you will see the Great Seal. Many people can easily recognize it in a few seconds. The U.S. Seal was first seen in public in 1782. In present times, the original Great Seal is placed inside a mahogany cabinet. It is formally shown at the Department of State Exhibit Hall in Washington, D.C.

There are two sides to the Great Seal. The reverse side and the obverse side.

What do the symbols on the obverse side of the Great Seal mean?

The Eagle

There is a bald eagle found at the center of the Great Seal. The national bird is presented with its wings raised. It was made from the 13 original states or colonies. The country became united after the states decided to sign the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

The head of the Eagle represents the President or the head of the Executive Department. The nine tail feathers stand for the Judicial Department. Each of the nine tails symbolizes one Justice in the Supreme Court. The left talon of the eagle has an olive branch which stands for peace.

The right talon of the great eagle features 13 arrows which stand for protection. This means that the United States shall keep itself safe from any kind of threat, local or foreign.

Shield

On the chest of the eagle, a shield is featured with 13 alternating red and white stripes. The shield is maintained only by the eagle, which refers to the American people only relying on their own principles and merits. The red and white stripes symbolize the 13 states unified by Congress and the President. These government leaders are represented by the blue color.

Each color has different meanings. The white color generally stands for innocence and purity. The red color stands for heroism and hardiness. The blue color stands for justice and perseverance.

The U.S. Flag also has the same color symbols.

Cloud

Over the eagle’s head is a cloud. The white cloud goes around the blue area which has 13 stars, forming a constellation.

Here are the symbols on the reverse portion of the Great Seal

Pyramid

The reverse side of the seal features a 13-step pyramid.

Eye

At the peak of the pyramid is the Eye of Providence, which is linked to the Latin statement “Annuit Coeptis” on a night sky. The line means that the Eye highly favors the struggles of the people. The Eye is known to see future events clearly.

Scroll

At the base of the pyramid is a scroll with the words “Novus Ordo Seclorum”. The Latin writing means New Order of the Ages. These refer to 1776 which is the start of the new American era.

Over time, some people become very good at identifying the various symbols as well as their respective meanings. The artistic features on both sides of the Great Seal make it highly unique and representative of the different aspects of American culture and history. The Great Seal is known as a national treasure and also points to the revolution that gave the country its independence.

The American Flag colors are taken from the very colors of the Great Seal. The Great Seal and American Flag feature the same color symbols and meanings.

The Background of Custom Banners

custom bannersBanner making has been a tradition dating back hundreds of years, but it is still very much in practice today. A banner is similar to most types of cloths but it features a symbol, logo, title or custom message. The word “banner” originated from the Latin term “bandum”, which means a fabric used to create flags.

Custom banners have even been present in the Old Testament of the bible. Troops were preparing for battle. There was a banner called Sashimono that was used by Japanese troops to know who their allies and enemies were on the battlefield. During the 15th and 16th century, the Sashimono became widely used in Japanese feudal times. Banners were also widely used during the crusades and other famous battles, such as the American Civil War.

The Palio race in Italy is held every year and banners have been featured to differentiate contestants. The contest happens in various towns in Italy. In Siena, the ultimate winner is provided with a silk banner.

Between a banner and a flag, a flag is generally tied to a pole or mast. The cloth is horizontally positioned on the mast and flies in the wind. A banner features a sleeve on top and is hung in a vertical manner on a small pole.

In present times, there are several other types of banners available, such as a web banner. A banner ad or web banner is a type of advertisement on the internet. It is a unique way of luring more clients and inviting them to click on the ad to visit a certain webpage.

Respect for Flag Equals Respect for People

189-member-complete-un-set-9As globalization is increasing, the concept of equality is broadening not just to government officials, leaders, selective citizens but to the general public throughout the world. Whereas current leading countries are working hard to secure their standing and dominance, the third world countries strive to attain political and socioeconomic importance to keep up. To gain significance and presence in the world, there is nothing better representation than having a country’s own world flag.

A flag may be one of the simplest items that represent a country but it has the power to tell the entire story of a nation. To site an example, the flag of Ireland shows their history about the struggle for freedom and peace between groups.

A flag that is treated with respect is often associated with how the nation and its people are treated as well. To show equality of countries for the United Nations, flags are arranged in a circular way and having same height. This makes sure no county can question or doubt if there are any favoritism or priority is given.

There are many ways to show respect to a flag. One example is by following the proper way to display it whether in private or in public places. Although there are countries that do not have any laws about how a flag must be displayed or flown, there are international guidelines available to show the proper ways.  In general, the military institutions can be an example because they have strict rules that they practice like a daily routine.
