How to Fold the American Flag Properly

When an American flag is not in use the US military practice shows that it must be folded into a triangular shape. A guideline thru the Flag Code is set up by the military for all US citizens to follow in order to maintain the order and respect for the flag. Although there is no definite guideline on how to properly fold a flag triangularly, below are simple steps on how to do it.

1.     Hold the ends of the flag with another person holding at the other end. Hold the flag at the waist level and make sure it is parallel to the ground.

2.     Fold the flag into half lengthwise.  Securely hold the top and bottom edges.

3.     Fold the flag into lengthwise again ensuring the blue field to be seen on the outer side.

4.     Begin making a triangular fold at the end edge portion. The striped corner of the edge must meet the top edge of the flag.  Start the fold from the left side to the right.

5.     Fold the outer end moving inward which is parallel to the open edge. This will form the second triangle.

6.     Continue to make triangular folds until reaching the other end of the flag. This usually takes 13 folds. Just in case when the last fold leaves a small remnant that cannot take part of a neatly folded triangle, tuck it into the preceding fold.

7.     Keep the blue field of stars visible when the flag is completely folded triangularly.

It is advisable to keep the folded flag stored in a flag case.

The Fascinating History Behind the Czech Republic Flag

Behind every flag is a story to tell, this is especially very much applicable to flags of countries. Some of the flag of countries that you currently see today may not be the same flag as how it was initially made. It may have evolved through time because of certain significant event or situations that happened in the past. And it is interesting to know how and why the flag was designed as such. Every detail whether its colors or symbols have meanings is expressly shown on the flag. The flag we’ll focus about is the Czech Republic flag; how it begun, how it developed significantly and why it is the way it seen today among other important things.

The design is similar to the flag of Czechoslovakia, a past sovereign state in Central Europe. However when conflict arose amongst its people the state dissolved and got separated to turn into Czech Republic and Slovak Republic. In January 1, 1993, Czech and Slovak Republic officially separated. It is Czech Republic that kept the old flag and the Slovak Republic made its own.

The Czech Republic flag design originated in 1920 wherein the Czechoslovakia flag started simply in white horizontal stripe on top of the red stripe. These colors where obtained from the original coat of arms of Bohemia. However, the flag design is already identical to the flag of Poland and had the same color combination with the flag of Austria that is why the blue isosceles triangle was added.  The flag was approved officially by the National Assembly of Czechoslovakia on the 20th of March 1920.
