The Secrets of Boat Flags

There are just flags for everything. On land, everywhere you look you would find a flag of some sort, hoisted above a high metal pole, draped over walls of government offices, and practically in any kind of advertising, promotion, or information dissemination. On water, it would prove difficult to have them floating on the water, unless perched top sea vessels as boat flags.

Boat flags are used in a lot of ways for the sea vessels that carry them. Very much like the land counterparts, these flags on the water are also with the same function and meaning with less of the commercial value. More often, they are for identification of ships for other seafarers to identify. Navy boats for example, carry they country flag, plus another flag which denotes their fleet and affiliation. Some of the commercial boats also carry their own custom flag, but still for identification of the company they are working for.

In some cases, there are some special boat flags which are used commonly among all trained merchant marines and combat alike. Plain colored flags, when waved signify a certain code to which other mariners could decipher and get the message. Even with radio and radar, these flags still prove helpful especially when technology fails.

Secret of Boat Flags

Boat flags come in various shapes and sizes, not to mention the insignias of colorful patterns and imposing visages of figures. The symbolism of each flag pattern depends on the purpose and function of the bearer. For instance, the different navies of each country would be flying different boat flags, with the country’s flag topmost. Flags included may indicate the specific fleet or group the boat is affiliated. As for merchant vessels, you would probably see a customized flag which states the company logo. Of course we are all so familiar with the romanticized skulls and crossbones used by pirates both in lore and in real life.

Some of these boat flags are universal in nature, meaning that these flags are used by marine personnel trained to fare the oceans as a means of communication. Since boats are relatively slow but quite difficult to maneuver in tight encounters, the use of flags as coded messages is as important as the ship’s survival. Seafarers are trained to use these colored flags to signal nearby ships so that even from afar, collision may be deterred. Even with the introduction of the radar and two way radio, boat flags as signals still server their purpose well.

The real secret of boat flags lie mainly in the history the flag was used, where it was able to go, and what events it was able to witness. Unless bought locally from a store with en massed merchandise of the flag, each boat flag holds a mystery to be discovered or told, usually by the ship’s crew it sailed with. While some are tragic and foreboding of negative events, most of these flags are retired from use with pride and prestige of going places and braving the seas.

Custom Canopy Use in a Nutshell

However, many customers still opt to go with custom canopies to satisfy personal tastes and specific needs. With the internet and virtual market and sales, ordering a personalized canopy setup is made conveniently accessible to the general public.

While there are still pre-fabricated designs in stock, the color used and design are the usual add-ons to suit a specific request for an occasion. Especially in outdoor commercial group gatherings wherein business and leisure are mixed, Businessmen find great use of the wide canopy roofing and ceiling as advertising space for patrons.

The designs of these custom canopies vary greatly. There are the usual basic personal canopy which provides quick and conveniently portable shelter when the outdoors, to a grander sized square shaped canopy tent complete with metal frames as posts and ramparts. There are even some very specific requests such as garage type canopies for vehicles, and even astrodome shaped ones complete with triangular frames as support used usually in aviaries and greenhouses.

Custom Canopy for Any Use

With the high number of custom canopy manufacturers in the market, the chances of finding a specific design to suit one’s unique taste and needs is quite high. Thanks to users’ feedback and suggestions over the years, manufacturers have created several designs which would cater to the most common needs. And for those unique ideas which are too rare to produce en masse, some of the better manufacturers allow custom designed requests.

Some of the more common uses and designs for these custom canopies range from personal shelter in the outdoors, to a bigger square shaped pavilion design for group outdoor activities, to a custom shaped arch design as portable car garage, to a complicated network of support brace structure such as that used in a greenhouse. Whatever the need may be, there is probably a design for it, so long as somebody has to pay the bill for its creation.

Materials used to keep the custom canopy structure up also vary from the lighter plastic for smaller sized ones, to metal based rods and supports for the bigger ones. Of course the weight would factor in such that the bigger the tent, the more probable heavier it would be. A good choice in canopy is to have a right balance between portability, durability, functionality, and price. A huge canopy for personal use would be too inefficient as it would be too heavy, pricey, and such a burden to be carried only by a single person.

Getting it too cheap also is a common mistake buyers make when buying custom canopies. More often than not, canopy setups with a big disparity in price over its counterparts may signal something fishy such as flimsy materials or the like.

With its iconic stars and stripes, the flag which symbolizes one of the greatest nations may just be relatively new as opposed to other nations’ flags, but nonetheless have as much rich cultural background. For a span of barely two centuries, the US was able to in still a continuously progressive evolution in its flag design.

While Betsy Ross may be the first person to sew the first official US flag, it was former president George Washington who during that time was still a general had orders to his men to hoist the first flag during the American Revolution. At that time the make shift design for the US flag was a British Union Jack in the upper left corner, with the horizontal red and white stripes. The American flag at that time

was symbolized by the first 13 colonies which rose up to the revolution, and has constantly been redesigned by approval from the congress. Whereas a new state joined the union, so did the number of stars in the upper left corner.

Currently numbering 50 stars, the American flag has retained its red, white, and blue colors, maintaining its motto of its red, white, and blue signifying valor, purity, and justice respectively. A Short History of the American Flag

The American flag has been a relatively new flag to fly the skies to signify a sovereign nation, barely a couple of centuries old, yet it has seen a great deal of rich historical account worthy to be known about. The very first flag attributed to have been locally sewn and flown may be attributed to Betsy Ross, but the very first flag that may have been the official precursor for the present day US flag may have been flown by General George Washington.

During New Year’s Day of 1776, he ordered the Grand Union to be hoisted on prospect hill as laid siege to the British. At this time, there were just the thirteen red and white stripes which signified the thirteen original colonies to rise up against the British colonial power. This plus the British Union Jack on the upper left corner of the flag is seen as the piece flown by the famed General.

During the course of the new nation’s existence, the original thirteen stripes and stars saw constant redesigning, especially as the UnitedStates became more distinct, settled, and defined. Each new star in the upper left corner signified a new state added to the country. From its humble beginnings in 1777 to the current year, the congress has proposed, passed, and approved changes to the design and layout, especially of the arrangement of the stars. Nevertheless, the official colors of red, white, and blue remained the same.

Red meant Valor, White becoming purity, and Blue signified Justice. This is where the star spangled banner got its familiar unofficial motto of bringing liberty and justice for all. This is the American flag, with all 50 stars under its sovereign.

American Flag Wearing Issues

You may have recently witnessed the latest UFC fighting championship match wherein USA and Brazil were matched, to which the American fighter emerged victorious due to an unfortunate injury for the side of the Brazilian. The injury was a mind numbing sight for onlookers, while other s have pondered on the issue regarding a more nationalistic concern: the wearing of the American flag by the defending champion.

We all know that the American flag, just like any other flag should be given honor and respect. Basic etiquette such as proper handling, olding, storage, and flying the American colors are instilled to us in different means. There is even the American constitution’s flag code which enumerates the rules and provisions required by the state to be followed by the citizens.

In one of the sections written about the flag, it is stated that theAmerican flag should not be worn disrespectfully like a costume or the like. However, this is technically violated by some people, especially the athletes themselves when representing their beloved nation. EvenOlympic athletes drape the flag over their shoulders pre and post match.

While many would say that it is downright illegal and unlawful, most have not touched this issue even with a 20 foot pole on the grounds that the intent to which the flag was worn was due to patriotism inform of other nations. Athletes competing on a global scale are representing their beloved America, and wearing the flag over their shoulders during events signifies their allegiance and submission to the American sovereignty.

So the big dilemma remains for those who would weigh the justification of intent to the technical and literal word written in the very constitution that was made to protect the laws written within, including the wearing of the American flag.
