I visited a friend celebrating his birthday last week and noticed that he had various American elements as his decoration. There were miniature American flags on the lawn and garden, the Star-Spangled Banner playing in the background, red, blue and white twirlers and photos of American presidents on the walls. The cake itself was a two-layered wonder which featured the White House and accessorized with the red and white stripes and white stars. What gave me the most interesting idea was when I witnessed the trick candles lit around the small White House.
Trick candles do not blow out no matter how much effort you may exert on these. These items got the name for “tricking” people into huffing and puffing until they run out of breath and the candles will turn off temporarily, before blazing again. I realized that the same concept can be used for US Flags. Particularly, people can come up with fire-retardant banners that will never turn to ash or burn regardless of the type of flammable substance that may be applied on these. In protests and rebellions, you often see foreigners take the national flag to the streets then burn these in front of a main government building.
When coating US flags with fire-retardant substance, the fibers of the material will stay protected. The banner itself may catch fire but it will not burn or deteriorate due to the heat. Protesters are only left to wonder how such a miracle could have happened. Government officials can try these to ward off unreasonable protesters and to teach people not to disgrace the country flag.
