Featuring the American Flag

If you look at the US flag, there is an inner rectangle with a dark blue color. There are also 50 five-point stars that are white. The flag includes 13 alternating red and white stripes in a horizontal arrangement. There are seven red stripes and six white stripes. These 13 stripes stand for the colonies who fought the British regime and helped America become an independent nation. Despite the odds, our forefathers were able to wrest control over the country.

The United States flag is also a huge symbol of independence and greatness. These are often featured in other forms, such as stickers, t-shirts, posters and emblems. The flags are presented on vehicles, buildings, houses and other wearable materials. People like to wear shirts, hats and pants with the US flag symbol.

While in America, you will notice that there are so many flags placed in front of homes, shops and offices. There are also special holidays celebrated on certain days of the year where the US flag is specifically raised. For example, Independence Day is celebrated every Fourth of July. The date was set on July 4, 1776. From then on, every Fourth of July is deemed Independence Day in the United States.

Flag Day is another special holiday where people celebrate the national flag and feature it in front of their homes and schools. You will discover other special events throughout the year where people wave tiny American flags and put up banner and posters. All these are meant to share their pride and passion for their beautiful country.

Important Holidays for Raising the US Flag

On some days in the United States, the national flag has to be raised. There are special ceremonies held just to raise and showcase the US flag, thereby uplifting the spirit and patriotism among citizens everywhere.

Independence Day. On the Fourth of July, the country celebrates the time when America gained its independence from British rule. The period when America became free was in July 1776. After that time, people celebrate the Fourth of July every year.

Flag Day. It is the day when the flag of the United States became official. On June 14, 1777, the stars and stripes were raised for the first time and from then on, people continued to celebrate Flag Day on the same date each year. Flag Day is not an official holiday, but a lot of people spend time raising the flag and showcasing it everywhere.

Veterans Day. On the special day, the country pays tribute to the brave people who enlisted in the Armed Forces and worked to protect the nation as a whole. Veterans Day is held on November 11 every year and is a national holiday.

President’s Day. The US flag I also raised during the special day. It is celebrated on the third Monday of February, especially to recognize the great president George Washington.

Memorial Day. May 31 is the time when people pay respect to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of America.

The United States flag has 50 stars, 13 stripes and the red, blue and white colors. These represent all the states.

Knowing More About the United States Flag

The United States of America is one of the world powers. When people see the United States flag, they usually relate it to power and advanced technology. The country with its stars and stripes are looked upon by citizens with pride and joy because they know how hard their forefathers fought to gain freedom as well as make the country into what it is today.

Regarding the structure and form of the United States flag, there is a small rectangle located at the top right portion. It has 50 five-point stars, representing each of the states of the nation. The inner rectangle has a dark blue tone while the stars are white. The bigger portion of the flag have red and white horizontal stripes. There are seven red stripes and six white stripes, totaling 13. The 13 stripes stand for the colonies that first battled the Europeans who wanted to take control of the country. These were the first colonies who fought British rule and made America a free nation.

The United States flag is often displayed by people in their offices, homes and schools. These are also made into other forms like stickers, hats, t-shirts, posters and badges and showcased on vehicles and walls. There are so many flags seen around the country especially on special holidays. Americans are generally proud of what their country has accomplished through the years which explain why more flags pop up during Independence Day and Flag Day, among others. There are also plenty of national holidays that let people share their sense of patriotism.

Monas, an Indonesian Landmark

When coming to Jakarta, Indonesia, you have to make time to visit the Monas, a special monument that was established for people to remember the great day when the country gained its freedom. It is also called Monumen Nasional by some, built by Soekarno, the first president of the country, in 1961. The place was available to the public a decade after. During the president’s reign, the Monas was the highest building in the land, standing 132 meters over the city. It was a great model to show how the locals fought to gain its independence from colonial regime.

When visiting the Monas, you can go to the top of the structure using an elevator. At the top, you can have a full view of Jakarta. You can also visit the Independence Room, which features the flag of the country and other great artifacts from the period. At the bottom of the building is the National History Museum. There is also a park outside known as Merdeka square. When entering the museum, you will find 51 dioramas that tell the story of the country’s fight for independence.

Sunday and holidays are not the best times to visit because there are so many students and tourists who wish to go to the top. It might take hours to take your turn. There is also a single elevator that can only hold 11 people at a time. Hundreds of people visit during the holiday season, which means that the place is always full.

Many people in Jakarta, Indonesia do not know the English language, so you have to look for an English-speaking tour guide or driver. The guide will help you know which places are best to visit during your vacation.

Appreciating Jakarta’s Culture

During Mondays, many of the museums are closed in Jakarta, Indonesia. It is ideal to visit on Sunday, since there is a puppet show at the local Puppet Museum. You can also find the funeral of the officer Jan Pieterszoon Coen, who used to work for a Dutch company in the country during the 1600s.

If you are fond of parks, you might like to go to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah or the Indonesia Miniature Park, which spans 250 acres. The parks are found in East Jakarta and are among the most beautiful sites to go to if you wish to try the culture as well as know more about the history of Indonesia.

There are so many sites to visit, which is why one hour may not be enough to see all of these. The parks will tell you a lot about Indonesian history and culture. The whole archipelago features several sites frequented by tourists. Some of the best things to try include riding a cable car in the park. You can find a mini version of the archipelago in a lake. TMII is known as a living museum because of all the different cultures that you can explore during the visit. Indonesia has 34 provinces, each represented by pavilions. All of these feature their own decorations which will give a glimpse of the background of Indonesia. Jakarta is situated in the Southeast Asian country Indonesia. It is an archipelago consisting of over 18,000 islands. The country is also full of various scenic places and there are so many activities to try. The capital city will feature a wide array of activities that will keep people occupied for a whole month. You can go through the whole city by foot, and get to meet some of the locals. You can explore the different nooks and crannies, as well as try the local fares and activities. You will discover more about Jakarta’s culture and history by going for a relaxing walk any time of the day.

First, explore the Old Town Batavia or Jakarta Old Town, which was known as a world heritage site since 1969. Travelers from Europe visited the country in the 16th century and referred to it as the Jewel of Asia because of its majestic sites and friendly people. In Old Town Batavia, you will get to see how the old days of the country was like. There are plenty of old-style Dutch architecture and other environments to take a glimpse of ancient history. Going to Queen’s Park and Wythenshawe in Mancheste

Queen’s Park was first offered to the residents of Heywood by the royal queen Victoria back in 1879. It is a beautiful municipal park located in Manchester, which has a Grade II rating. It also has a number of historical structures and breathtaking landscapes. The place showcases some of the buildings that were already existing two centuries ago, such as the Victoria Fountain and Lodge House. During weekends, there are special events and the venue is also a good place to take leisurely walks. Some of the sites to see include the River Roch and Ashworth Valley. The park also earned the Green Flag Award in 2013.

Some of the features to find in the park include the lake and river bank, the BMX track, a visitor center, cycle racks, a play area, a toddlers play area, orienteering courses, activity center, tennis courts, grasslands, a multipurpose events venue, a wildlife walk, a café, free parking, wetland and wildlife places, a bowling greens, fully secure site, a fenced area, a park warden and a pavilion.

In January 2012, part of Wythenshawe Park was called a local nature place. The park is known for the Nan Noon Wood, as well as the Gib Lane Wood. The place is also called by some as Garden City because it has several beautiful plants that are only present in Manchester. Other activities to enjoy include horseback riding, football, bowling, track, sipping coffee at the Courtyard Café, watching the various plants, playing tennis, watching the kids play at the open area, putting, walking and orienteering.

It can be challenging to determine which park to visit first. Some have built a reputation for a number of features, but there are five that have been deemed by people as the most beautiful. Each park actually has its own share of flora and fauna. Here are some of the best things to look forward to when in Manchester.

Heaton Park is a great place to go when in Manchester. It is the largest park in the area and also among the biggest in all of Europe. Aside from enjoying the relaxing sights and sounds in the park, you can try a number of attractions that are ideal for people of any age.

Heaton Park has a country house that dates back to the 18th century. It is Grade 1 listed and known as Heaton Hall. The place is available for public visits and at times, can also serve as a museum and events area. Some of the features included are an 18-hole golf course, a gold driving range, a pitch and putt course, tennis courts, a boating lake, an animal farm, observatory, a couple of playgrounds, a restaurant and tearoom beside a lake, a tram system, the Woodlands Orangery, an ornamental garden and a bowling greens on a flat green. The bowling greens is the only one of its kind available in Manchester.

How Oktoberfest Started

germany-flag-4Oktoberfest is celebrated every year by people all over the world. It is a time to drink more beer and wine than usual. However, many do not know that the festivities actually started in the German city of Munich several centuries ago. In 1810, Prince Ludwig of Bavaria was married to Princes Therese. Ludwig would later become King Ludwig I. There was a large party prepared for the royal couple, and the events were held outside the very walls and gates of the city. All of the citizens were asked to come and have fun. During the first festival, the royal family joined horse races. The practice was well-received by the people that they decided to do it again. Every year, there were horse races held as well as an agricultural event. The practice continued through the years, until horse racing became a part of many agricultural displays in the years that followed.

Beer and a lot of food were offered by local sellers. Later on, more food stalls, market vendors and rides for children were provided after 1818. The fair continued to grow through the years and more entries and fun activities were introduced. After a century, millions of visitors frequented Wiesen or the fields. In Bavaria, the celebration was referred to as Wies’n, after Princes Theresienwiese.

The wedding was conducted on October 12. Actually, it started in September and went on for 16 days until early October. When Germany became one again in 1990, the dates were set so that Oktoberfest stopped on Unity Day or October 3. The first set of events included wine tasting affairs. Many cellars featured their best spirits, alcohol and beer. The idea was for citizens to consume all the beer so that the storages would be empty and they can have room for more brew to make. There are six huge breweries in Munich, although other makers also have their specialties. According to the Purity Order, only key ingredients like barley, water and hops can be used to create beer. The steins started to gain popularity afterwards.

Steins started in Germany. The word came from Steinzeugkrug, which means stone tankard. It was the recommended clean container for drinks at the time.

The steins were used widely by people and these were also composed of different materials like glass and pewter, depending on the place. There were several variations introduced, such as a heavy hinged lid that would keep the contents fresh and free from contaminants. There were also other add-ons that would keep the beer from spilling. Over time, stein kinds and designs varied and many used these either for decoration or actual brewing.

In Germany, a lot of citizens still prefer to have their beer straight from mugs and glasses. Steins are still available but these usually are for exhibition purposes. Some models have very attractive designs that make these ideal for bars and pubs. Tourists might visit local places just to see authentic steins. Others may order these online for display purposes in their homes.
