Importance of the American Flag

The two most common monikers or nicknames of the American flag are the ‘Old Glory’ and ‘Star Spangled Banner’. It is perhaps the most recognized and popular flag throughout the globe. It holds its own identifying visage since the country it represents – the United States of America – is not the most, is definitely one of the most powerful nations. Its dominance over its territory, as well as its influence overseas in terms of social, economic, political, military, and other areas of interaction is second to none.

Since its early roots from the pilgrims and colonists of the New World, and to the staunch and strongly declared independence from the European powers, it has come to be regarded as a first world country, capable of contributing greatly to peace and a modern world order. Even with the American flag’s simplicity in design – striped red and white with a field of blue encapsulating fifty plain white stars – it represents something of a unified outcome of fifty different states that would comprise a great and powerful nation.

Of course we know the awesome outcomes that have occurred since the battle for independence against the monarchy in 1776 wherein the continentals eventually won against the British rule. Since then, whenever the American flag would be hoisted high above the sky, it only means independence and liberty to the place. Different values and rights of the people are embodied in the rectangular entity – blood, sweat, liberty, freedom, justice, equality, independence, and all others that make every citizen proud to be part of the American sovereign.
