The History of the Canadian Flag

Despite having freezing winter months, Canada is well known around the world as one of the best places to live in because of its stable economy and wonderful environment. For many decades, many people have flocked to the country because of the different wonders and rich culture that makes it very conducive for raising kids and retiring.

All countries have a national flag and song. A number have garnered recognition from different nations around the globe because of the wonderful design or tune. The “Star Spangled Banner” of the Americans is one of the most famous.  The Union Jack flag is also a very famous banner. People can easily recognize the flags of the United States and the United Kingdom.

The Canadian flag is one of the most popular worldwide which showcases the red maple leaf, the white square at the center and two red borders on each end. O Canada has a very rich background too.

When Canada was officially recognized as a country in 1867, it featured the new flag. Before its independence, the country presented the Union Jack as a subject of the British Empire. The British Commonwealth was sovereign over the country so it was only understandable that they use the same flag.

The Red Ensign was featured from 1870 to 1922. The flag had a red background and the Union Jack in the upper left part. Today, the Union Jack is no longer present. In 1945, the world first saw the Red Ensign that stands for Canada.
