Making the American Flag Design Right

World flags are displayed everywhere – in front of houses, in offices and on top of cars. Patriotic flags are always a favorite among people because they uphold their principles and virtues. When you showcase your country flag, regardless of the form and size, you show where you belong and what you stand for. You also tell others how you think and feel about current situations. The American flag or decal can even show your passion and belief in the principles established by the founding fathers. Generally, the United States flag emphasize how Americans are a free people with independent beliefs and solid ideals.

When you get a world flag or decal, spend time knowing the right source as well as checking the design. Many groups actually display the flag incorrectly by using the wrong dimensions, colors and shapes. There are reliable manufacturers that put a lot of emphasis on the accuracy of their American flags. They research thoroughly about the history and design so they can come up with official versions of the banner for serious organizations.

Basically, the American flag should have 50 stars, six white stripes and seven red stripes. If these numbers are changed, the results can be wholly different and the intention of the original flag makers is defeated. It is important to pay attention to detail when making these flags. President Eisenhower indicated the right elements and dimensions of the flag on August 21, 1959.  It is recommended to follow these accordingly especially when displaying flags in public.

Gadsden Flag’s Rattlesnake

The Gadsden Flags is a historical flag in America that uses the rattlesnake as its main symbol. But did you ever wonder why of all animals they used rattlesnake as its symbol? This started in `1775 during the American Revolution against the British Rule.  The British government sent the convicted criminals of England to America and Benjamin Franklin made a comment about this saying that America must give thanks by sending boatloads of rattlesnakes to England.

A rattlesnake is an animal that was seen by Franklin as a noble creature because of its way of attacking. Such snake never attacks the enemy without sending out a warning first through its rattle sound. For Franklin, the rattlesnake best represents each American.  He specifically wrote in the Pennsylvania Journal about this that the animal does not start an attack or does it surrender when engaged.

When the American Revolutionary War was at its peak during the winter in 1775, the American Colonies saw it is the right time to have the US Navy to seize the British vessels as they re-supply their group in America. Together with this new Navy group were several groups of US Marines to strengthen the Navy more. First Marine recruits came from Philadelphia and they came to the group with yellow painted drums and an image of a coiled rattlesnake with text underneath that says “Don’t Tread On Me’. This was created by Christopher Gadsden who was tasked to prepare the new Marine group. Thus, this started this Gadsden Flag has been a big part of the American history.

Knowing More About The Gadsden Flag

If you have seen a flag that is yellow with a drawing of a rattle snake that is coiled and with text written below it, the flag must be the Gadsden flag. The text that is written below the snake says “Don’t tread on me”. Just in case you have seen this flag on flagpoles, it is worth the time to know the history about the flag. There are many interesting facts about it.

First of all, the name of the flag originated from an American statesman and general Christopher Gadsden. He designed the flag during the American Revolution in 1775. The phrase “Don’t tread on Me” was the motor or cry of American Patriots during the American Revolution in their struggle for freedom from British rule. The phrase was a short way of expressing anger from the abusive and intrusive British government. The American Patriots strongly believed that they have the natural rights to individual liberty, as God given to them, but this was being treaded and trampled by the British government.

The rattlesnake is the image used to symbolize rebellion and disobedience from the British Rule. This symbolism was first used in 1751. The story behind the image started during the time when the British cleverly disposed England’s worst criminals by shipping them to American colonies. Based on the publications from Pennsylvania Gazette, Benjamin Franklin released a comment by saying that America must thank the British by sending them back to England loads of rattlesnakes. The rattlesnakes became the symbol of his campaign “Join or Die”.
