About The Land of the Rising Sun

“The sun is like our hot neighbor. It makes our day bright. I love our hot neighbor. I love the sun.” I wrote that about nine years ago, in fifth grade science class, when asked to write something about our most beloved star. It didn’t take that long before I learned that almost everybody in the world felt the same way. In geography class, it was stunning to realize the number of countries whose flags have the sun symbol on them. That simple fact continues to baffle me until now. At that time, I didn’t even know that Japan’s flag was all about the rising sun. The young romantic I way back then would have thought of that red circle as a rough representation of the heart. I still do right now, but of course I know better. Anyway the heart and the sun doesn’t differ a lot in my point of view. A while ago I mentioned that I love the sun, didn’t I?

Hailed as the land of the rising sun, Japan is living up to its moniker in almost all imaginable aspects. Culturally, Technologically, Economically, name it and Japan surely has something to boast about it. Even Japanese women are making a mark globally. Who can forget Riyo Mori and her Miss Universe 2007 title? Even the internet is brimming with beautiful Japanese models. Now it wouldn’t be so hard to say “Japan is like our hot neighbor… as hot as the rising sun.”

In the near future when I grow filthy rich, I’d probably consider a global tour that jumps off from Japan. I’ll spend my time planning all the beautiful things ahead in a hot spring that has a full view of Mt. Fuji. Every morning, I’ll be on the lookout for that beautiful sunrise and realize how it always reminds us of a good day ahead. Just like our hot neighbor.

Ancient Plague

The war for the Gaza strip has placed the flag of Israel on the headlines once more. The war that has caused many injuries and has taken many lives has been the focal point of the news. But before this war that is being dealt with using guns, missiles and tanks the Gaza strip has been a place were swords clashed and lives were taken. This was the place where one man exhibited great strength coming from God and the man’s name was Samson. The adventures if I might say and the love story of Samson took place in Gaza. This is where Samson was delivered into bondage by his love Delilah. This is also the place where Samson died after toppling the temple of the god Dagon.

Israel also featured the greatest king, a king so loved by God. As a proof the Star of David can be found on the flag of Israel. As many of us know Israel has been a place of history, biblical history to be exact and Christ himself once walked this land, to heal people and to offer salvation. The bible says that Israelites are the chosen people of God, but why are they suffering now? Has the Promised Land become plagued by people who have blood lust and greed running through their veins and minds? In my point of view these people who started the war are the same people who have disobeyed the most high in ancient times. I believe it is a plague that cannot be cleansed from the land until the time of repentance. I understand that people do not believe that the past can affect the future but if it is written and if it has happened the land might still be under punishment.

I might be superstitious or biblical but I believe anything is possible.

The Race

It’s a busy campaign week in our local civic club and the buzz for the new president is quite alarming. There are two candidates for the said position and in my point of view both of them are real good leaders. The club office itself is filled with political party flags. Actually it’s quite funny how members use the flags as props for their campaign and not understand the meaning of the flags. Going back to my agenda, the two competing candidates are giving it their all for the glorious position. I believe that the power to control the whole organization has a deep impact on the candidates.

The race for power is on and I have some facts I want to share about the two candidates. The candidate from the Democratic Party has been a member for three years now, he has been with the other club members and he knows their pleas and needs. The candidate from the Republican side is a smart girl. She led various teams in championships and carries the pride of the debating team.

If we look at it carefully both can be very strong leaders. One hears the plea of his people and the other relies on pure skills and intelligence. As a member of the said club, my mind is parted and my decision is somewhat clouded. I would like to be heard by someone who is in power but I would like to follow a leader who knows what to do with her platoon. The political party flags will still be seen throughout the club office but we all know that one will fall and soon everyone would know who the best leader is.

As of now, charisma is the main weapon to use. But for the days to come, all that will be seen are the failures rather than the success.

Dreams

Everybody wants to be rich and famous someday so that they would get what they want. Some strive hard to graduate to see things happen and unfold for them while others just wait for luck to pass by and give them success. I am one of those who want to strive hard and graduate to get success. I want to buy a mansion and a lot of cars but as for now I can only dream of driving one of those cars and live in one of those mansions. I used to buy car flags that would remind me of my dream back then when I was a kid. I wanted to have a mustang back then so I always bought those car flags that had the mustang logo on it and when I get home I always imagine driving one of those cars.

Now, I laugh and smile about the past, I still have those car flags in my room but I seldom use them. College life is quite hard. Paying the tuition fees and studying to graduate is lot of pain in the neck but I understand that if I want to achieve my dreams I should strive hard. At present, I work as a part time driver for a rich family in our city. Actually it’s a bitter sweet feeling being a driver. The feeling is sweet because at times I get to drive a Porsche Cayenne and bitter because it is a pain to drive someone’s car you always wanted to have. It’s like loving someone who already has a husband.

As of now I could only dream but I know someday those dreams would become a reality.

A Bizarre Thought

I always wanted to know how women and teachers think. For women, I only want to know when to engage and when to withdraw. As for teachers, I want an early warning of things to come. I was thinking, what if women and teachers were created with attention flags above their heads. It would be absurd if we all knew how people think. Life would be boring and privacy would not exist. But if people were made to have warning signs or attention flags I believe everything would be easy.

These kinds of attention flags are made to warn people or plainly catch attention so. If there were color indicators, we would know when to engage or withdraw from people we want to meet. For example, if the flag shows red, the people watching would know that the person is angry or annoyed. People will then get the message not to approach him. By knowing this also, people could avoid being turned down and prevent conflicts at bars. Life would seem be peaceful this way.

Other than making life peaceful and less violent, the color indicators can tell if a person is attracted to them. If the flag shows a green color it would mean that a person wants your attention. It would then be easier to approach and converse with that particular person.

My idea of having an easy life is crazy and I know that. Sometimes I just have to let people know of what I think. The idea of people having warning signs is somewhat good. For me, it helps make a person’s life easy. With all the signals and messages it conveys we could get away from mad and violent people and stay with those who like us more.
