How the American Flag Was Raised in Iwo Jima

It was a very momentous opportunity for the United States and the whole world when the American flag was raised atop Iwo Jima. The famous photo depicting seven soldiers in all from the navy and marine corps gained a Pulitzer award. The soldiers where holding on to the famous flag at the top of Mt. Suribachi at the height of World War II in 1945. This was the beginning of the plan to quell the Japanese forces from invading several territories around the globe.
Gaining control of Iwo Jima would be highly needed in the campaign as the island was a very important and strategic area for the Japanese troops. Iwo Jima was found in the middle of Japan and the Mariana Islands where the long-range bombers from the United States were found. Before the island was captured, the Japanese easily found several bombers coming from the islands and quickly let their main forces know about the deployments. After gaining control of Iwo Jima, it became a convenient landing point for the bombers where planes can be repaired and pilots can rest and recover from all the air fighting.
Getting Iwo Jima was not an easy task for the United States forces because the island was protected heavily. The marines wanted to get Mt. Suribachi initially since it was a useful point to fully take control of the entire island. Gaining control of Mt. Suribachi only happened after four days of fighting. The battle for the entire island raged for 26 days with several soldiers from both sides dying.
At last, the allied troops fully controlled Iwo Jima.

During the colonial times, traders and gold buyers would come all the way since Ghana was and is still one of the largest producers of gold in the world.
Many groups feature the Ghanaian flag such as the United Nations and many government institutions. The flag was adopted in 1957 and features the colors red, green and yellow, together with the ensigns. These are sold in the United States.
