Learning About the German Flag

Whenever people see the German flag, they will try to determine the things that happened to the country in the past several decades. The black, red and gold colors represent many things and signify the tradition and culture of the country. The flag also features the rich background of the country as well as showcases the pride and strength of the Germans.

In 1848, the German flag was first raised by the Frankfurt Parliament that intended to bring together all feuding German states. However, because of political issues, the flag was removed when the government was changed. It was raised up again during the establishment of the Weimar Republic after the end of World War I. When the country was divided between East and West Germany, the coat of arms of the East featured the coat of arms at the center. After both sides made peace, the country brought up the tricolor flag you find today.

The Germans then referred to their flag as federal flag or Bundesflagge. It is also referred to as Germany flag or Deutschlandfahne. According to the sow tones, it is known as black, red and gold or Schwarz-Rot-Gold. The national flag is actually different after the federal shield was added, which is another kind of coat of arms.

Afterwards, the three colors you see on the flag are the same ones that once represented the Holy Roman Empire. Gold stands for a golden field, black stands for a black eagle while red stands for the red claws.
