Introducing The Flag Pole

During the ancient Roman period, the initial creation of the flag was affixed to a spear and shown on the battlefield. The first flag pole has changed much as far as presenting the flag is concerned. Flags are generally waved using a flagstaff or flagpole, carried by a person or set on the ground or a pedestal during special events. When used in ships and boats, the flag is generally set on the mast.

Fixed flagpoles are typically created using metal or wood, including a cord and pulley that will move the flag up or down as necessary. Flags also include grommets which hold the cord well in place. Flagpoles include a truck or a ball or flat plate at the peak. This is used to keep the wooden pole intact and protect it from breaking or splitting.

Finials or attractive decors are also placed at the tips of a flagpole. Examples are a star or an eagle standing at the point of a spear. At present, the highest flagpole that remains standing is in Tajikistan, called the Dushanbe Flagpole. It stands a total of 541 feet or 165 meters. Flagpoles can also need guy wires or other means of support due to great height.

There are also movable flagpoles that hold banners and flags during ceremonies. Majority of flagpoles at present are created from fiber glass or aluminum. These usually have adjustable lengths for added convenience. Some are customized to be suitable for special flags, such as golf flag poles and feather flag poles. These unique versions are especially made to match the requirements set.
