One of the most famous banners in the whole world is the United States

of America flag. When American flags are displayed in various parts of

the globe, people will easily recognize the stars and stripes and

associate it with the great nation. It is very rare for someone to

mistake the American flag as a banner of another country.

The flag has its signature elements such as the red and white stripes

and five pointed stars against the blue background. The American flag

actually comes in different names. Some people call it the Old Glory.

Others refer to it as the Star-Spangled Banner or the Stars and

Stripes. The USA is one of the most powerful nations in the world,

which is also the reason why the US flag is easily remembered by many.

There are other interesting facts about the flag too.

The flag is generally presented only until dusk. Early in the morning,

the flag is brought up to the top of the pole and then taken down

again before the surroundings get dark. Some establishments like to

show the flag 24 hours a day. It is actually allowed to keep the

banner up throughout the night as long as it is illuminated by a

spotlight. The banner should also be kept safe from storms and bad

weather. The flag should not be displayed upside down, except if you

wish to signal that danger or war is coming.

France was one of the first countries that initially recognized the

American flag. During the War of Independence, the USA and France were

allies who fought well against the British troops. The French also

believed in the virtues of freedom and independence and helped the

Americans maintain peace and sovereignty.
