The United States of America is one of the countries that feature a wide array of historical flags. Every one
of the fifty states showcases different flags on top of steel or aluminum flagpoles. The historical flags also
have their own unique stories. The state of Oregon has a particular flag that has a very aesthetic appeal
and rich history. Even today, you will still find it raised and displayed in many areas.
The Oregon flag has a very attractive style particularly because there are different designs featured on the
two sides. On one side of the flag, the main color is navy blue with other images coming in gold. The
official color of the state of Oregon is gold. You will notice the flag displayed in several public areas on top
of tall and well-built flagpoles. It is the only one among all fifty states that feature two unique designs on
two sides of the banner.
The name “Oregon” was first heard of during the 1700s. This was before the state was included in the
Union list. Originally, the term used was “Ouragon” which is indicative of a legendary river. Later on, the
word was converted into the present “Oregon” which stands for hurricane or strong wind in French. The
change of state name became widely used.
When the state of Oregon celebrated its 150th year anniversary as part of the Union, there was a
competition which mainly involved redesigning the Oregon flag. Several people joined the contest and the
results were published in “The Oregonian”, a local newspaper.
