If you like to view a variety of historical flags, you will discover how the United States has a very wide
collection because of its rich history. Visiting the fifty states will have many individuals realize that
different flags are also featured on top of wooden, steel or aluminum flagpoles. Every territory or state
might feature a special historical flag to stay reminded about their background and cultural heritage. The
flags also have interesting stories that are worth discussing for future generations.
The Oregon flag is one of the most special flags around because it is the only one that features two unique
designs. There is a unique design on one side of the flag and another completely different design on the
other side. The field color of one side is navy blue with other elements in the gold color. The state color of
Oregon is gold. You will find these flags displayed in many public places around the state.
The name “Oregon” was used after certain changes were made with the original term. Before the state was
officially included in the Union, it used to be referred to as “Ouragon”. The term means hurricane or
wind-storm. After several years, “Ouragon was used” until it was changed to “Oregon”, which is the
current name mentioned at present.
Oregon recently celebrated its 150th anniversary of being included in the Union. To give importance to the
Oregon flag, a flag redesigning contest was held. Many people joined and featured very unique designs
that were displayed in the local newspaper called “The Oregonian”.
