Installing a Flag Foundation Sleeve

One of the common types of flag setups involves the foundation sleeve which is installed within the ground. The approach encases the flagpole inside the ground sleeve. The ground sleeve on the contrary is placed inside the ground to keep the flagpole stable regardless of the outdoor conditions. The best way to encase is to put one inch of the flagpole inside the foundation sleeve for every ten feet of exposed pole height. The foundation sleeve is generally two inches wider than the outside diameter of the flagpole so that it fits into the sleeve conveniently. The space between the two diameters is filled with sand and other solid fillings.

Foundation sleeves are usually divided into two. The first type involves those with a diameter of six inches which includes a grounding spike and base plate. The other type involves sleeves with a diameter bigger than six inches. These come with a grounding spike, base plate and support plate. There are also models that include steel-centering wedges that are welded to the inner part of the base plate. This keeps the pole vertically aligned and stable.

There are several flagpole makers that offer a foundation sleeve that can properly accommodate the pole you’re using. You can have these made together with the flagpole so you can have an outdoor setup without having to worry about in-ground conditions. The maker will take the dimensions and ensure that the pole properly fits into the sleeve. Other accessories will also be included depending on your preference and type of setup. The cost will depend on the materials and accessories included.
