An Overseas Worker’s Dilemma

Let’s face it, sometimes it does happen in life when we are faced to make hard decisions prompting us to let go of a few things that mean so much to us. Living in a third-world country, the working class citizens are on the struggling mode to uplift their careers with the hope of improving their current lifestyle, if not, make ends meet to support the family and other dependents.
The most common career path is to leave the country and seek for greener pastures abroad. The thought of seeing a totally different world flag for a few years is definitely hard as it means leaving the warmth of home and family. Parents have to be emotionally strong to live far away from the children.
Working overseas for one’s loved ones are not all sad stories. Thanks to the wonders of internet and telecommunication because they help ease the loneliness and bridge the gap between the family members. More and more mobile phone companies offer cheaper long distance call rates. Sending hard-earned money back home isn’t as limited and as expensive as before. Most of the major carriers, on the other hand, take turns in offering promotions for cheap plane tickets, thus allowing many overseas contract workers to go home regularly for vacation and family visits.
We know that challenges and problems are a given when family members are away from each other. It is always a sound idea to always think of the ultimate purpose why you decided to work abroad in the first place, and that is to strive hard for the ones you love. For one day, you will no longer be apart and finally see welcome flags waving at you when you go home for good.

The Magic of Summer

We always look forward to summer. It’s that part of the year that brings a lot of memories counting back the days to childhood. Indeed, there’s always something special about summer aside from the feather flags associated with the memorable vacations we used to have at the country.

For most people, summer holds special thoughts about many things. This may sound cheesy but everyone probably couldn’t forget once upon a time they had their very own share of summer love. It is when we feel the magical attraction to that someone special we met during camp or to the boy or girl next door of grandma’s home.

However, as all the other seasons, summers don’t last too long and so is summer love. It remains and ends just there, only for the summer. Soon fall season banners will present themselves and we are left with no choice but to move on with our own lives. The call of school, career and family brings us to reality but the memories of a joyful summer will always linger in our hearts and in the pockets of our mind forever.

On the other side of things, the summer also teaches valuable lessons. Resourcefulness is one of them as it teaches individuals, mostly the youth, the value of work. Having a summer job is another phase of life where teenagers begin to appreciate hard work and responsibility. It inculcates in the young minds that if you want to have something, you need to work for it. Truly, nothing beats the feeling of getting something from your own sweat and labor. This is the reason why we cherish more those stuff we worked hard for than those we just got for free.

Oh, I can’t wait for summer.

Welcome to the Ego Parade

There are a lot of places where you can see nothing but egos banging on each other. There are just events where people go to be seen and to flaunt what they have and what more they can acquire. Here are some examples:
1. Car Racing – You see men in leather jackets, with hot women in tow, plus their oh-so-awesome cars. You see car flags everywhere with different brands and models, all advertising affluence. All the advertisers were there after a bidding and entrance itself costs high.
2. College Reunions – Here, there are stories which are relived and people who have changed all over the years. When college flags fill the place, you remember the college life once again, all the flattering and embarrassing anecdotes. And even if you can’t change anything that happened, you can still change what they think of you now. That is why people are always asking how your batchmate’s business is doing and who is the richest member of the batch.
3. Beauty Pageants – It’s the women’s turn now! Beauty pageants are cat fights just waiting to happen. Everyone is believed to aim to be more beautiful, smart or talented than the woman beside them and that makes beauty pageants such great ego parades.
4. Elections – Of course elections are all about egos! More fragile ones, in fact! Elections include investments in name and image and people would do everything to protect them. Street banners of candidates’ names fill the city and they’re just in every media outfit. It gets sickening actually.
So, which parade are you signing up with?

De-Stressing the Wrong Way

Every once in a while, we will crave for some time off our work and school, because they can get to us and have a really good job of stressing us. There were sleepless nights of not work, but the fact that you just can’t shut down your brain due to its overworking during the day. We take vitamins to keep up with a killing lifestyle, and sometimes, we turn to the wrong things to ‘de-stress’ us such as alcohol, partying, etc. What we don’t know is that these things might actually stress us even more.
Staying up late partying means that there will be alcohol overload in our bodies. When not handled properly, this will dehydrate our brains and affect the way we think and act. A. We might do things we will regret and add more stress in our lives or B. We might get a hangover the next day and end up getting sick anyway. What’s so relaxing about that? Surely you don’t need danger flags to remind you to hold the alcohol.
Partying means dressing up for a great night out, putting your makeup on, and dancing in high heels. First, sweat and make up may damage your skin especially if you don’t wash them off properly. Next, the second hand smoke is always bad for you and, like sweat and makeup, it will also damage your skin. You’ll turn out to be looking more stressed than ever. Lastly, heels all night seriously hurts and may even give you varicose veins.
Instead of doing those things, just go to a retreat or a vacation. A place where air is fresh and you don’t have to impress people is just what you need for a fresh start in life. After a relaxing weekend, the racing flags can fly again for another round of work and stress.

Keep Up With Debts

One day, we were earning a lot. The next day, we realize that we have spent too much. We spent too much because we were confident that we receive a high salary that we only thought of the things that we can buy one-time and forget about the other things which we need from day to day. Because of this, we end up borrowing money and owing people more than how much we’re willing to keep up with. See the financial danger flags already? Tsk tsk.
But if you see yourself in this rut, you can still crawl out of it. To do so, you can follow 4 easy tips.
1. Put Your Financial Standing into Writing. There is really nothing more definitive than writing your plans and the facts down. This way, you can confront the problem directly and when there are figures staring back at you, it’s difficult to pretend you’re still good financially.
2. Pay them off first. Do not make other debts to pay the old ones. It will just turn into a vicious cycle of zero income and outstanding credit balance. Your goal in everything that you receive must be to pay off your debts first. You don’t need big fall banners to emphasize that.
3. Cut back a little. Yes, it may be difficult but you really need to cut back. Restate your priorities and follow them religiously. Differentiate what you want from what you need and work on it.
4. Be proud of frugality. You don’t need to advertise it or starve yourself, but take pride in being frugal. It is a show of discipline and control. Those things feels good to have than debts, don’t they?

What Makes Social Networking Fun

It’s all over the world wide web, really. People just make online profiles, post them and instantly, their personalities become accessible to the whole world. Truly, times have changed. With the plethora of different social networking sites accessible today, it’s difficult to take our pick from them. But there are a lot of things we find fun, no matter which site you decide to sign up with!
You can direct who you are. An online profile says a lot about you and you may even fake a lot of things there. Like indie groups but too ashamed to do so? Say you like The Veronicas instead of Tegan and Sara. Like a native Indian dish that smells bad? Just say you frequent Wendy’s. Profiles start out like blank flags, just waiting for you to put something in and wave it around.
It is a convenient way to be and keep in touch. The internet is an easy arena to be and stay in touch. A lot of networking sites offer birthday reminders and event posting. Getting together for the next big affair just got easier. When before it needed pennant streamers or message flags to advertise, a mere wall or board posting in websites will do.
It’s unlimited! The space is almost unlimited, that’s because internet is unlimited! You can store as many pictures as you like and have as many contacts as you prefer. Social networking sites thrive in the bounty, not appropriation. So it really doesn’t care about space.
