There are so many state flags available but the Ohio state flag never fails to impress and grab attention. The banner was designed by John Eisemann. In 1902, the flag was adopted and became popular among other banners because of its non-rectangular shape. It is the only state flag in America that is quite different from the frequently used rectangular ones. The look of the Ohio flag is similar to a pennant. It includes a swallow tail, where one edge is split into two.
The Ohio state flag design includes a large blue triangle that functions as the field of the banner. It is representative of the hills and valleys that are abundant in the state of Ohio. There are 17 stars that are seen on the flag too. 13 symbolize the initial colonies of America while the four others represent the states that followed, including the state of Ohio. Ohio is actually the 17th state of the Union.
You will also find a big red circle bordered by white. It is placed at the center of a blue triangle. The red circle stands for the letter “O” for Ohio. It is also the state monicker “The Buckeye State”. The flag also contains horizontal stripes, three red and two blue, which stretch from the banner to represent roads and waterways. These stand for the Ohio state, which is one of five states that are part of the Northwest Territory, along with Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and Illinois.
