The History of Flags

Beauty of a county is evident not only through its ambiance, structures, people and culture. In fact, all can be summarized through simple world flag, an item that may seem ordinary because we can see it every day, but it is a powerful representation of a country. It serves as a symbolism of a country that is often displayed publicly in important government and non-government events. Citizens show high respect on this simple item by pausing and standing facing the flag when a national anthem is being sung or played. A flag is placed on a half staff to show respect or feeling of mourning. When an important person who served a country dies, a flag is placed over the coffin. And there are other more uses of world flags that show respect and importance.

No one can exactly tell when and where flags originated. All historians can say is that it came into existence even before civilization came. Flags were already evident in ancient prints and items such as Egyptian wall and tomb carvings and Greek coins as well.

Flags customarily matched with flagpoles that are carved on top, called vexilloids which means guide. It can be either be made of metal, aluminum or wood and others.

Flags are not limited to world or country flags only. There are custom flags, or flags that are custom-made depending on the purpose, that are used for non-government use such as to represent an item, a brand, a territory, a company or a group.
