Do you ever wonder how the design of the Brazilian flag was originated? It has a good long history to tell. The colors were inspired by the old royal Portuguese families that are significant in the history of Brazil. The dominant colors of green and yellow were said to represent the prosperity of the country in terms of its natural resources such as green for forests and yellow for minerals like gold. The blue represents the sky. The stars inside the blue circle of the flag were arranged in a manner that represents the stars formation over Rio de Janeiro that appeared in November 15, 1889, the same day of the Proclamation of the Republic.
The 27 stars also represent each of the federal states of Brazil. The sizes of the five-pointed stars vary and put together into 9 constellations. At the center of the blue circle is a South Cross because it can be spotted from all states of Brazil.
The country celebrates a flag day, just like USA. However, Brazil celebrates this every 19th of November. During the celebration, the national flag must be raised in the middle of the day and at night the flag must be well illuminated. The national flag raise is accompanied by its own song, officially presented in 1906, that was written by Olavo Bilac and music arranged by Francisco Braga.
The Brazilian flag can be seen anywhere in the country whether in public or private places. Raising one shows love and pride for the country.
