Similar to other flags around the world, the Czech Republic flag that you see today has a very rich history. It also has a lot of things to feature compared to the United States banner. Here are some of the unique features that you will discover about the Czech Republic flag.
A Brief Background
If you are an American and find the Czech Republic flag on top of a flagpole, you will be attracted by the tones immediately. The banner features the colors red, blue and white. There are other distinct features to find on the flag such as its use in the past decades. During war, the flag will show a big blue triangle on the distant portion on the left with red and white banners on the other side.
Similar to the stripes and stars banner of America, the Czech flag also incorporates elements that stand for other locations in the region. During the 1990s, the flag had a different layout although it did not last long. When the former Czechoslovakia was abolished in 1993, the Slovak and Czech Republic officially separated.
The present Czech Republic Flag that you see today is actually similar to the one shown in 1920. The white and red tones come from the first coat of arms of Bohemia, which is a part of the present nation. A white and red banner also has similar features to the Polish flag.
Many people have different interpretations of the blue triangle. Some speculate that it was added to be more distinct compared to the national flags of its neighbors, Austria and Poland.
