South African Flag

The colors that is of the South African Flag is one of the more common flags you will see once you visit the continent of Africa. Though specifically the official flag of one of the countries of this great continent, it is perhaps one of the most prominent African flags representing the nations within. The flag was adopted as its official colors in 1994 as former President Nelson Mandela took oath and sat in office.

The colors’ meaning originally meant the past and the future of Africa. Even with its rather turbulent and challenged past in terms of peace and development, the blue stands for blue skies of tranquility, green as lush lands, and yellow as the natural riches found within such as gold. Black and white serve as the range of diversity in terms of culture of the citizens residing in the country.

The modernized Cape Town has a similar yet different meaning for some of the colors of the South African Flag. The blue pertains to the Waterfront, and the majestic view of the open sea from the southernmost point in the continent. Tourists flock to this area mostly due to its unique and beautiful location. The red is deviated away from the meaning of a tumultuous past, but is instead associated with the Red City Tour of Cape Town. The open top deck buses which tours the area allows tourists to see the major sights. Some noteworthy places are the Table Mountain, the Waterfront, and Camps Bay.

Coming from a rather turbulent history, the South African Flag now flies with a different tune of modernized peace and development for the global view.
