Relating the South African Flag Colors

Perhaps you may be wondering what the colors of the South African Flag stand for, provided of that colorful combination of colors, 6 to be more specific. In the words of some locals and citizens, here are some casual meanings given to the colors that give rise to the beautiful nation of South Africa.

The Black triangle on the left side of the flag, is related to the Black Marlin Seafood Restaurant. Converted into a commercial establishment from an industrial whaling station during the early years, it offers a scenic view of the coastlines leading up to Cape Point. The White strips that separate the other colors are associated with the Witsand. This Nature Reserve is located on the Northern Cape encompassing about 2,500 hectares of white sand but having a boundary of the red Kalahari. The whiteness is said to be brought about by the hillocks that have accumulated underneath it.

The Green is for the lush covered Table Mountain, a flat-topped mound towering over South Africa. One of Cape Town’s most visited place, it is synonymous to the place itself as it is referred to as the most distinctive landmark. The Yellow is associated with the gold and the golden artifacts that characterize the South African nation. Since gold has been one of the main commodities of Africa to the global market, it is not surprising that gold would be part of anything associated with this nation.

The Red is associated with the double-deck tour buses that go around the city of Cape Town called Red City Tour, while the Blue is definitely associated with the blue waters that line the coasts of South Africa, and bears witness to the combination of colors for the South African Flag.
