Moving Flags from Place to Place with Flagpole Carrying Belts

During special ceremonies and national holidays, you will notice a number of flag bearers wearing a series of straps across their body, holding up the organization’s banner or national flag. The accessories are known as flagpole carrying belts which will help stabilize the flagpole and make it easier to carry from one place to another. These are very useful during national anthems, parades and when guiding troops during battle.

Even in the past, many official flag bearers of battalions and troops feature these flag carrying belts to properly hold the flag up, making it easier for everyone to see to appreciate or follow commands. The straps are worn over the hand so that the straps in front form an “X” across the chest or torso of the person carrying the flag. An “X” will also appear in the back when you’re using double-strapped belts. Single-strap types are lighter and can hold smaller or lighter poles made of aluminium or fiber glass.

The flagpole carrying belts have a cup in the front and center where the base of the flagpole will be placed to support it properly. The flag bearer holds the stem of the flag with both hands clenching the pole in a reverse manner, usually with the elbows out and pinkie fingers pointing to the front. Most of the flag’s weight will be borne on the cup. The cup is usually made of leather with a solid base to secure the flag and keep it from slipping. The person can then march to the sound of drums and bring the flag anywhere.
