Celebrating National Holidays with the American Flag

The American flag is one of the most familiar banners regardless of where you are in the world. When traveling around the United States of America, you will discover many flags standing in front of homes and commercial places. The flag is often used to decorate cars, clothes, accessories and other things. The flag immediately brings to mind the great nation of America and all its ideologies and virtues.

If you look at the flag of America, you will notice the three main colors – white, red and blue. The red and white colors appear in alternating stripes numbering 13 in all. These stand for the first colonies of the country that went against the British monarchy. In the end, these 13 states became the very first states of the Union. The American flag also has a blue background featuring 50 five-pointed stars. These stand for the 50 states of the USA. The American flag comes in other names like the Star-Spangled Banner, the Old Glory and the Stars and Stripes. Several other names were also given.

Among the most practiced methods in America is raising the flag for the whole year in common places like schools, government structures and parks. You will also find the flags displayed in front of homes and on gardens and lawns. There are national holidays in which the flags are constantly featured such as Memorial Day, Independence Day, Veterans Day and Flag Day. You will find many small and big flags placed on the burial grounds of war veterans.
