All About the Dominical Republic Flag

When we went to visit the Dominican Republic in 2001 coming from Paris, St. Maarten and Amsterdam, we intended
to do so just in time for Christmas. It was going to be a unique experience to celebrate the holidays in a tropical place.
We were there for a whole week and stayed in a resort just near Punta Cana, a town on the eastern part of the island.
It is on the border of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
The Dominican Republic flag can be seen at different locations in the country. It has been displayed in various
locations for a span of 150 years. The flag is also officially described in the Dominican Constitution. Article 96
describes how the flag has four rectangles of equal size. The flag is among the oldest worldwide, first raised in 1844.
Haiti is the country right next to the Dominican Republic which also flies a quite similar banner. The colors used by
the Haitian flag are very much identical to the Dominical Republic flag. The colors red and blue are incorporated and
stand for special virtues like freedom. The red color stands for the bloodshed when the people initially fought for
freedom and independence. The blue color stands for the country itself.
The Dominical Republic flag features a ratio of two to three in terms of representing the state and war ensigns. The
official banner also applies the same concept but do not show the official coat of arms of the nation at the center.
