Flags Symbolize People

custom-miniature-flagsIn America, June 14th is a national holiday known as Flag Day. It remembers the original adoption of the U.S. Flag. President Woodrow Wilson’s proclamation in 1916 would establish the date as National Flag Day. However, it was only in 1949 that Congress made it official. The date is not an official federal holiday and only the state of Pennsylvania deems Flag Day as a special holiday. The biggest Flag Day Parade in America is held in Troy, New York every year. Over 50,000 people come to the site every year to witness the event.

June 14 rarely falls on a weekend, so the National Flag Day Foundation usually celebrates Flag Day every year on the second Sunday of June. The celebration will involve flag raising, singing of the national anthem and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. In the final week of June, National Flag Week also features the president encouraging American citizens to fly and wave their American flag for the rest of the week.

Every country has its own flag and citizens usually show their appreciation by celebrating Flag Day. Flag Day generally reminds people to raise their national banner for at least one day and remember the history of their great nation. Flag Day practices will differ depending on the country. Generally, people will display the US world flag in front of their homes, offices and schools. They will also talk about the past and the historical leaders who helped shape America into a powerful country at present.
