Maldives: An Island Paradise

There is one island in Asia that is yet to be known throughout the world for its breathtaking beauty and uniqueness. This is none other than the island of Maldives. A sought-after tourist spot and a favorite choice of water sports enthusiasts and honeymooners. The island has around 9,000 small islands but altogether have a distinct culture. Tourists will not need to go to different places to enjoy plenty of attractions because the island itself offers wide range of attractions and activities.

A popular place that exhibits Maldives culture is the Grand Friday Mosque. The architectural design is the highlight of this mosque because it is rich of religious markings, not to mention it is the biggest mosque in the country that can accommodate up to 5,000 worshipers. The mosque was built by Ibrahim Iskandhar, a sultan who reined in 1656, having an extravagant and detailed architectural design that make this structure very noticeable in the island. Its dome is colored gold with intricate wood carvings and engraved Arabic writings. These are the attributes that make this structure a must-see venue.

Another structure to visit is the Mulee Aage. This is a palace in Maldives that plays a historical significance in the country. And this used to be the where the sultan lives. The palace is surrounded by an astonishing tropical garden and the ambiance itself can bring reminiscence of the island’s past. This palace was built by Sultan Mohamed Shamsuddeen III in 1906 for a purpose to be the home of his son.
