For several years, world flags have long been used to let other people know about the different areas and territories. These were widely used by the British Empire during their colonization and exploration activities. Every governor of a new territory would present the flags to mark the sovereignty of the Empire over countries like Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India and the Caribbean Islands. Many of the flags today may already be different after the British Commonwealth gained their independence. However, there are still flags that showcase the original emblem like the Australian flag.
Military flags were also used on the battlefield to arrange the troops and let commanders know how to properly position the divisions of the army. These may not be known as a government flag that stands for a certain place, but military flags easily indicate the individual units in the military. The soldiers will quickly gain pride and strength just by watching their flags raised during battle.
Organizations and associations that have the same purpose or objective will also make use of flags accordingly. Every group has its own government flag. The different sections of the government such as the Labor Department, Justice Department and Department of Agriculture all have their own flags to represent their respective purposes.
The September 11, 2001 attacks may have been traumatic for the United States. However, people learned of ways to stick together and cope. American flags would be seen in different places all over the country, to ignite the feelings of patriotism and confidence.
